The Library and Learning Resource Center (LLRC) of the Elementary Department kicked off the launching of the book month celebration with this year’s theme, “Learning and Leisure through Reading amidst Challenges” with an eventful series of activities that is focused on engaging both the students and teachers, held last November 23, 2020 during the virtual morning assembly.
Due to the shift in learning modality, the LLRC reconfigured the conduct of all activities to be asynchronous, maximizing the synchronous sessions allotted for class discussions. Students participated by accessing the activities through their Genyo accounts.
LLRC prepared a coloring activity for Kindergarten to Grade 1 students; a character guessing game for Grade 2 students; crossword puzzles for Grades 3-6; and a book talk video presentation for Grades 4-6. Students from the higher level were also challenged with the “Hone your library skills” activity where they were asked to find books utilizing the OPAC system of the school.
Teachers also participated in the celebration by joining the “Shelfie: LLRC throwback selfie contest”, a photo contest about reminiscing good memories in the elementary library by uploading entries of pictures taken before the pandemic.
A virtual book fair was held during the last week of the celebration, where all students and teachers across the department were given the opportunity to order and buy books from a variety of titles online.
The list of winners of different activities was posted on Don Bosco Makati’s official website last December 4, 2020 as part of the culminating activity.
